| Ladder Operations Help |
How do the ladders work? The tournament ladders are simply a ranking of players or clans rated based on the results of challenges. Each player/clan starts off on each registered ladder with 1000 ranking points. They are free to challenge anyone on the ladder up to 5 positions above them or anyone below them. Challenges must be accepted before they are deemed official. All challenges are accepted/rejected from the Games Profile. Once the challenge is complete and the result is submitted, the system calculates new rankings for all the participants. If you win a challenge your ranking points increase, if you lose your ranking points decrease. The amount of points awarded is determined by the size of the gap between the competitors. Beat someone with a much higher rating than you will get you more points than beating someone closer or below you. You move up the ladder by accumulating rating points. You can only become number 1 on a ladder by defeating the existing number 1 player/clan. Therefore it is possible that the number 1 on any ladder to have a lower rating than players below them. Because of this, the number 1 of every ladder will not have their rating displayed. Back to top |
How do I challenge someone? Firstly you can only challenge on a ladder that you are registered for. To challenge simply go to your Game Profile screen. Here you will see a list of all the ladders you are currently registered for and your rating for each. Clicking on one of the ladders will display the full ladder standings. As a rule you can challenge anyone up to 5 places above your current position. Valid challenges will have a © symbol beside them. To challenge simply click on this symbol and fill in the challenge form that comes up. A Private Message is sent to the opposition letting them know that you have initiated a challenge. They will also see this on their Game Profile screen. Back to top |
How do I accept or decline a challenge? All challenges can be controlled from the Game Profile screen (Clan Profile screen for clans). On this screen you will see all your current and previous challenge history separated into Incoming and Outgoing challenges. Incoming challenges have been initiated from opponents, while Outgoing challenges have been initiated by you. Under the Incoming listings any incoming challenges will require a response from you – you can either accept or decline challenge. The Please Respond link will list all challenges that require a response from you. You can then accept or decline each one, where applicable. A private message will be sent to your opponent letting them know of your decision. Back to top |
How do I enter a result? Once a challenge has been accepted, each player then agrees to play the challenge on a specific date/time. Game rules vary for each ladder type – please ensure you are familiar with each before agreeing to play. Once the game has been played there are three possible outcomes for each player/clan– Win, Draw or Lose. Either competitor can submit the result via the Game Profile screen under the Awaiting Result link. Once one of the participants enters the result a private message is sent to the opposition. They then have to confirm the result is correct before the challenge is complete. There is an option to record the result as a No Show. This should be used if one of the participants failed to show up for the challenge. All disagreements should be submitted to the site administrator via private message. Back to top |
How do I confirm a result? You can confirm a submitted result via the Game Profile screen under the Awaiting Result Confirmation link. Once confirmed the result will stand and new ratings will be generated. Back to top |
When are the ranking points updated after a challenge? Ranking points will only be updated once the challenge result has been submitted and confirmed by the participants. Back to top |
Why doesn’t the number 1 of a ladder have a ranking? The number 1 of a ladder actually does have a ranking, however, because you can only achieve the number 1 spot by beating the existing number 1, it is possible that the number 1 does not have the best rating. Therefore, the number 1 rating isn’t displayed on the ladder to avoid confusion. If the number 1 is beaten then they will drop to the position on the ladder that reflects their actual rating. Back to top |
How do the ranking points work? Ranking or rating points work via a complicated algorithm. This algorithm is based on two important factors – your current rating and the probability of you beating your opponent. If you challenge someone with a lower rating then the probability of you winning is high, if you challenge someone with a higher rating then the probability of winning is lower. The amount of points awarded or deducted is proportional to this probability factor. Therefore, if you beat someone with a lower rating your rating points will increase but by only a modest amount compared to beating a higher ranked player/clan. Conversely, losing to a lower ranked position will result in a larger deduction of rating points than losing to a higher ranked opposition will. Back to top |
Is there a time factor associated with challenges? At the moment there is no in-build expiry period linked to challenges. We hope to include this at a later stage. Until then, we are insisting that all challenges be completed within 1 week of the challenge being accepted. If the challenge goes beyond this then private message the administrator to resolve the issue. Back to top |
Do I have to accept a challenge? No. However, if you do not accept any challenge for a period of 1 month or more then you may be suspended from the ladder. Although not included yet, there will be a rule that the number 1 of each ladder must accept all challenges. Back to top |
Can I have multiple challenges running at the same time? At the moment you can accept or initiate one challenge per ladder. Therefore, it is not possible to have more than 1 challenge outstanding on the same ladder. Back to top |
